Haunted Castles in North Wales to Visit on Halloween

Halloween has been celebrated since Pagan times and North Wales has a strong tradition of partying on All Hallows Eve to the full extent, offering visitors spine chilling experiences with ghosts and ghouls everywhere.  Whilst many of the caravan parks in North Wales provide spooky entertainment if you want to go where real ghosts live, the castles in North Wales are a good choice.

Here are 3 of the most haunted castles in North Wales where you and your family can have fun being scared out of your wits on Halloween themed trails.

Bodelwyddan Castle, Rhyl – 29 to 31 October 2015
This is one of the most haunted castles in North Wales, so much so that it was featured on Most Haunted and various other documentary TV programmes about haunted castles.

Staff and visitors have had unexplained paranormal experiences at Bodelwyddan Castle and you can hear about them on Halloween including recordings that have been made of strange voices, piano music being heard when no one is playing the piano; ghostly apparitions of soldiers and children from times gone by, a shadowy presence in the castle’s cellar and visitors’ true stories of being touched but not seeing anyone around. Doors slam throughout the castle on a regular basis without explanation and there are many more weird happenings that you’ll learn about this Halloween.

There are two guided tours lasting 2 hours each over three nights, the first commencing at 6pm and the second at 7pm.  All the family is welcome on these specific tours but children under 8 are not permitted.  However, there are also adult only events from 9pm to 3am where you’ll be able to investigate the haunted rooms with real paranormal equipment. Here is a video you might want to watch before booking!

Caernarfon Castle, Caernarfon – 31 October 2015 from 11am to 4pm
If you are lucky (or not as the case may be) you may spot the Floating Lady of Caernarfon. Nobody knows who she is but she has been seen over the years, hovering and flying through corridors. This resident ghost has been known to tamper with things left at the castle overnight including electrical apparatus. Perhaps this is why she glows!

There will be a spooky trail to follow and if you can be among the first 150 to arrive, your children will get a Halloween prize.

Beaumaris Castle, Anglesey – 31 October 2015 – 11am to 4pm
There are several reported ghosts at Beaumaris Castle who are rarely seen but often heard. Many recordings have been made by staff and visitors including unexplained agonising screams and chanting.  Cold spots abound in nooks and crannies, and people walking through the corridors of the castle often report a sensation of being observed.

There will be a Halloween trail to hunt down the ghosts and ghouls and the first 250 children taking part will receive a prize.

If you haven’t already booked your tickets, now would be an excellent time to do it.

Those people who don’t enjoy ghost hunting or extremely scary experiences might want to stay in their holiday lodges or static caravan parks in North Wales, relaxing with a hot toddy or enjoying what is available on site.  You might also want to buy some treats for children who may knock at your door, if you don’t want to get hit with a trick!

Happy Halloween
