King Arthur filming at Snowdonia - Caravan holiday in North Wales

If you are taking a break in a static caravan in North Wales at the moment, you
might find it interesting to visit the Ogwen Valley in Snowdonia where a new King Arthur movie is being filmed by director, Guy Ritchie.

Due to be released in July 2016 the stunning landscape of Snowdonia will be used as a backdrop to the movie. Astrid Berges-Frisbey playing Guinevere looks down on Charlie Hunman, who plays King Arthur, as he throws his mighty sword Excalibur into a picturesque lake. Other members of the cast include Eric Bana and Jude Law playing Uther Pendragon (King Arthur’s father) and Vortigern respectively.

New slant on an old story

The film will put a new slant on the lives of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, with Arthur being the leader of a gang in the back streets of Londinium. Arthur initially isn’t aware of his background or purpose in life but when he picks up Excalibur all is revealed. He learns that the evil despot Vortigern killed his parents and stole his crown.  In order to take up his rightful position as king, Arthur has to come to terms with Excalibur’s power, face his demons and join the Resistance against Vortigern at which point he meets Guinevere. Because the area is so remote it might be difficult to view the shoot but not impossible.  Those who have seen it think the film will be a blockbuster on a par with Lord of the Rings.

Take care walking or hiking around Snowdonia

If you are out for a walk or hike in Snowdonia you might face some difficulties since some areas are closed off and there has been a request for people to avoid the area during the next fortnight. Areas such as Beddgelert, Llyn Gwynant and Nant Gwynant all have some footpaths closed. If you do decide to get a sneak preview be careful and discreet so as not to disrupt the filming. It’s rumoured that this will be the first of a series of 6 Arthurian movies and it is likely that the Welsh economy will benefit considerably from it next year. If you have a static caravan in North Wales you might get a boost for rentals too!
