Was it Your New Year’s Resolution to Keep Fit?

With the Christmas festivities a distant memory, the chances are that you have made a New Year’s resolution to get fit and healthy in 2016. The television channels will be crowded with offers of fitness DVDs from numerous celebrities and the shopping channels will be inundated with special offers on fitness equipment and juicing machines. An excellent start to keeping fit is to take frequent short breaks on holiday parks or caravan holidays in North Wales.

Abergele and surrounding areas in North Wales provide an excellent environment to keep in shape, walking along the many nature paths, climbing mountains in Snowdonia and swimming in the sea or swimming pools at caravan holiday parks.

Reports show that only 8% of people actually keep to their resolutions throughout the year, so if you do not want to be one of the ones to fail, follow some of our easy steps to help you achieve your goal.

Decide on your goal

Set yourself a realistic target that is somewhere out of your comfort zone. It could be a 5k run, to swim 100 lengths of the swimming pool or to lose 2 stones in weight. Set an achievable time target, probably several months in advance, and begin slowly; don’t expect to go out and run a marathon in your first week of fitness training. Initially try to fit in a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day, take a walk during your lunch break or get off the bus 2 stops earlier than normal.

Make time for your resolution

With everyone leading such busy lives, it’s difficult to schedule in time for a visit to the gym each day. Set an alarm on your mobile phone for an hour before your gym visit is due, to give you motivation to attend.

Download an App

There are a multitude of mobile phone and tablet Apps available to help you with motivation, such as fitness trackers, calorie counters, weight loss recorders and even one that will count your steps.

Get support

Team up with a friend and exercise together, go to a weight loss meeting or purely to be there with some moral support when times get tough. It is a good idea to discuss your goals with family too, as they can keep you going with motivation when you feel like giving up.

Use local facilities

The area around Sirior Bach Caravan Park offers an abundance of opportunities for fantastic countryside walks which also give you the advantage of passing through some of the area’s places of interest and amazing views. Search on the internet for ideas for new routes to take, or as previously mentioned, download an App to give you some car-free walking ideas.

National Cycle Route 5 runs along the North Wales coastline, linking towns such as Rhyll, Llandudno, Abergele and Conwy, giving you the opportunity to cycle on this mainly traffic-free trail.

Abergele Leisure Centre, within a short distance of your holiday home, has several fitness classes scheduled for the New Year, in addition to a superb 4 lane swimming pool.

The key to success is to keep on track, keep motivated, but most of all enjoy the happiest, healthiest year ever.
